What of Tomorrow?

The WHAT of tomorrow underlies the characteristics of our day of the tendency of men and women to provide for their influence – that of perpetuating it beyond their lifetimes. More and more, people of great and small means are realizing they have an interest, that extends beyond themselves, to set aside a portion of their resources for the continued good for the people of their communities.

Anyone contemplating such provision for the future naturally wants assurance that money provided for this purpose will:

  • Accomplish some permanent good.
  • Help build the community of the future as one would like to do if still living.
  • Be handled wisely and carefully.
  • Go to an organization which is stable, well managed, in touch with public sentiment and capable of meeting the changing conditions of the future.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Huntington Y Foundation is to build a permanent pool of funds for the broad charitable needs of our association, to manage these funds efficiently, and to use them effectively in responding to the area’s changing needs and opportunities all while putting Christian Principles into the practice through programs that builds a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Why the Y Needs and Seeks Endowment Bequests and Gifts?

Just as colleges, schools, and churches cannot be self-supporting from earnings and still give the service we demand of them, so must the Y have support.

In many cases the boys and girls and young men and women who need the service of the Y most cannot afford to pay all that is costs to render this service. To increase the fees sufficiently to make the work self-supporting would shut out from its benefits those who need them most. Foundation Funds stabilize the work and at the same time provide for expansion and new directions. Constantly changing social conditions require new methods and new programs; a growing population requires expansion of proven program. It is impossible to increase current earnings, allocations from the United Way, fees paid by participants and contributions rapidly enough to meet these demands. Foundation Funds will make it possible to answer some of these calls where the need is urgent.

This opportunity is open to all, whether the gifts or bequests be large or small. You, too, can make a lifetime gift or a bequest to strengthen and extend the services of the Y.

How Gifts Can Be Made to the Y Foundation

The Y is a tax exempt charitable institution incorporated under the laws of the State of West Virginia. Contributions and gifts to the Y are deductible for income tax purposes by individuals and corporations up to the amount allowed by applicable Federal and State laws. Gifts of bequests by Will, or other forms of gifts which take effect on death, are deductible from State and Federal estate taxes as permitted by law.

Substantial gifts made either presently or by testamentary provisions, can, potentially produce large savings in estate taxes. In the case of present gifts, an especially desirable tax result may be obtained by giving securities or properties which have materially increased in value since their acquisition, because their gift value is their present value than their cost.

Your attorney, accountant, or trust officer can advise you as the tax advantages of present and testamentary gifts and as to the forms and methods which can be used to accomplish your wishes or you may use our Foundation attorney (no cost to you).

Creating a Legacy for the Future

All of us are somewhat in debt to the past. We drink from wells we have not dug; we enjoy liberties we have not won and that’s why giving to the Y is so important. We can share our appreciation for all we have received and guarantee that others may enjoy the Y for generations to come.
